Jamie Stevenson has been in the earthmoving industry for over 30 years working for different companies as a machinery operator. Three years ago Jamie took the plunge and decided to go out on his own which was the start of 2 Brothers Civil. 2 Brothers Civil is based in Miners Rest which is a suburb north of Ballarat in Victoria.
In July last year Jamie purchased his first Hidromek excavator; a HMK145LCSR.
“The fuel economy of the HMK145LCSR is amazing – better than anything else I’ve operated”, Jamie explains.
Earlier this year 2 Brothers Civil had the opportunity to grow and add a larger excavator, this time – a Hidromek HMK230LC. The HMK230LC has an operating weight of 23.4 tonnes.
“I have been doing mainly subdivision work, drainage, trenches and civil work and the HMK230LC is perfectly suited to that”.
Jamie also opted for a Daemo (Alicon) B215 hammer which is built for 18-25 tonne excavators.
“The hammer is great quality – I’m very happy with it and the integration with the Hidromek has been seamless”, Jamie adds.
When asked why Jamie took a punt and tried a newer brand on the market he said “I saw the Hidromek 30 tonner on the internet and thought it looked good. I also did my research and contacted a few owners who all gave me good references. They sent me photos and I got feedback directly from the people who own these machines. I spoke to enough people and did enough research to have confidence in the machine to purchase it”.
“I also looked at the landscape in Turkey where these machines are designed and built. They obviously have to be built tough looking at the rocky landscape they have over there. I contacted Onetrak and have been dealing with Shane Hickson from the Victorian sales team. He has been great to deal with and I’ve been very happy with the purchases”, Jamie adds.
Operator Wayne works with Jamie and now operates the Hidromek HMK145LCSR excavator.
“I’ve operated all the different brands on the market and the HMK145LCSR is in a class of its own. It’s a “beefier machine” – I was surprised just how powerful it is for its size. It’s almost like it’s over engineered”, Wayne says.
“I do mainly trenching works with a lot of rocks and use the rockbreaker a fair bit. The HMK145LCSR is more capable and has more breakout power than any other machines I’ve operated.”, Wayne explains.
“The cabin comfort is great, it’s smooth, easy to operate, stable and has good aircon. The build quality is great and it’s just so powerful. It has no downtime - it’s just super tough and reliable. I really can’t fault this machine”, Wayne concludes.
